Aunt's Passing

Second aunt passed away on the morning of the 24th of May. Today was her cremation day. We gathered at Mount Vernon in the morning where her church pastor conducted a service before we escorted her to the crematorium.

My second aunt watched me grew up all these years and she liked calling me '老夫子' because she thought I was a humorous guy. She was the only one who called me that all the time and I won't hear anyone calling me 老夫子 no more..

With aunt's passing, I now worry about mum, since she and aunt stuck together like the best of friends and they were always hanging out together. Now that aunt is gone, we all worry if mum can cope with the loss of aunt's companionship. I should accompany and chat with mum more from now onwards. How mum cried her heart out at aunt's funeral and cremation.

I don't know if you believe in God but me, my family and aunt's family believe that the good Lord has taken her home because when she breathed her last, not only was she at peace but she had a smile on her face as her maid and grand daughter both saw a vision of an angelic being escorting aunt away.

I am most grateful for the Lord's mercy that even though aunt passed away from cancer, she did not experience the torture of agonising pain associated with terminal cancer that has already gone into the critical stage. Believe me, I'm most grateful for that since I've watched how my grandfather suffered greatly till the second he died years ago, which was traumatic and truly terrible.

It made me feel so helpless watching him suffer to the extent that his consciousness of everything going around him was practically gone as his awareness couldn't pierce through the wall of pain he was trapped in. It was just plain awful.

Thank God for His mercy that my aunt didn't have to suffer the same.

Aunt, we are going to miss you. We know that you are in paradise now and we'll see you there when the Lord takes us home. I just hope that with God's grace and mercy, I'll be able to make it there too in the end just like you just did.
